Maximo Performance and Tuning

Overview:

Develop system management plan to manage performance to capacity requirements, including monitoring, tuning, archiving, and capacity planning.

Simulate production interactive and batch loads in order to tune all components of the production system in preparation for Go-Live. This includes terminal servers, web servers, databases, operating systems, and QAD run-time services.

Validate the production environment by running all functional and process test scripts. Test the expected transaction loads (interactive and batch) on the production environment so that system function, capacity, and performance can be validated and measured prior to Go-Live.

Objectives:

  • Establish proper monitoring tools to measure the run-time performance of critical system components – networks, servers, databases, etc.
  • Create a management plan for monitoring system use, managing performance factors, and collecting information for capacity planning
  • Develop and test both interactive and batch scripts to stress all components of the production solution
  • Review performance results, apply tuning techniques as necessary.
  • Define long-term capacity requirements
  • Develop a database management plan to routinely cleanse large tables and maintain optimal performance
  • Validate the production environment(s) with process scripts
  • Run interactive and batch scripts to stress the system and validate accurate completion of critical business processes
  • Develop an ongoing performance plan to retest the environment on a given schedule

Deliverables:

  • Environments tuned for anticipated transaction loads and target response times
  • Documented list of all configuration changes made to tune the solution
  • Performance management plan
  • Production environment tested as configured for live processing
  • Documented list of functional and stress-based issues that were identified and resolved (add to Action Item List)
  • Ongoing performance management plan
  • Database maintenance plan

Maximo Security Administration

Overview:

Present and refine the details of the security policy that will be required to control access to user sessions, applications, and data. Define the structure of the security solution and work with the project team to collect business-level information needed to configure the security solution.
Configure software and supporting systems to realize the implementation security plan. Establish security management policies and procedures.

Objectives:

  • Determine the requirements and architecture for a security plan
  • Address integration points with network, operating system, middleware, and database security
  • Define requirements for activity audit tracking
  • Collect business-level information necessary to configure the security solution
  • Configure and test security plans, resolve issues
  • Establish and secure all production user accounts
  • Define security management policies and change control for the security plan
  • Document security management procedures

Deliverables:

  • Security Management Plan Document
  • Completed security data spreadsheets for each product
  • Implemented security support and management procedures
  • Project team trained on security principals and procedures

Documentation:

  • Workshop Overview
  • Workshop Agenda
  • Security Management Plan Document
  • Security data spreadsheets
  • Consulting Trip Report
  • Activity Sign-Off Document

Disaster Recovery and High Availability

Overview:

Determine disaster recovery requirements, plan the architecture of the disaster recovery solution, and document the recovery procedures. Determine change management procedures needed for the disaster recovery solution and update the change management procedures guide.

Develop a detailed high-availability architecture and process plan. Implement high-availability components for eventual use with the production systems.

Objectives:

  • Define strategy and requirements for disaster recovery plan
  • Determine architecture requirements
  • Build a set of maintenance and cutover procedures
  • Identify impact of disaster recovery plan on existing change management plan
  • Verify production high-availability requirements and service level agreements
  • Install and configure all high availability components including: Clustering software and hardware; Load balancing software and hardware
  • Perform tests of all high-availability components

Deliverables:

  • Disaster Recovery Design Document
  • Updated change management procedures to support disaster recovery plan
  • Detailed high-availability architecture and procedures document
